Lexi and Danny Reed married in October 2015 and knew they wanted to have children one day. But before they could embark on that journey, they also knew they had to make a drastic change in their lifestyle.
At 5’6, Lexi weighed in at an incredible 485 lbs., while her 5’8 husband came in at 280 lbs. That’s thanks to a sedentary lifestyle, diet that almost entirely consisted of fast food, and lack of motivation to change what had become familiar and comfortable.
But after the Terre Haute, Indiana, couple married and started having more serious discussions about starting a family, “I knew I could never be a mom at the size that I was and that was one thing that motivated me,” Lexi said.
And that’s what gave the couple the push they needed.
Their transformative journey started on New Year’s Day 2016, and Lexi has documented the process on her Instagram, @fatgirlfedup, which now has more than 471,000 followers. Just one look at the “before” and “after” photos is sure to serve as inspiration for anyone with a weight-loss goal, especially at this most decadent time of year.
Rather than jump on the latest diet fad bandwagon, the couple went the old-fashioned and time-tested route: switching out fast food for home-cooked vegetables, lean protein and healthy carbs, and slowly working their way up to sustained workouts, including cardio and weight training.
And because they kept their sights on their goals, Lexi’s dropped more than 300 lbs. to 181 lbs. Danny, meanwhile, has lost almost 90 lbs, going from 280 lbs. to 191 lbs. Just look at the difference!
But the benefits of having each other, and working together toward a common goal, can’t be overstated.
“Losing weight can either make or break a relationship and for us our journey brought us closer together. This journey started because we wanted to be parents one day and turned in to so much more,” Lexi wrote on Instagram. “Not only is that goal possible now but so is a life growing old together. Surround yourself with those who push you to be better and support your goals no matter how big or small.”
“This helped our relationship a lot and that is pretty cool,” her husband agreed. “Us being able to do stuff together has brought us closer together.”
