Sometimes a wrong number can end up being oh-so-right!
When Charlyn Willis of Savannah, Georgia got engaged, she grabbed her cell phone and texted everyone close to her with the good news. However… in the excitement of the moment, Charlyn accidentally punched in the wrong phone number for her sister, but instead of the text disappearing into the ether like most wrong-number text messages, this message landed in the hands of a celebrity.
Actress Sarah Michelle Gellar, made famous in iconic 90s movies and television shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Cruel Intentions, got the text instead of Charlyn’s sister. Instead of ignoring it, Sarah decided to personally congratulate the newly engaged bride-to-be!
Sarah shared the photo to Instagram and Facebook along with the message:
“This is #CharlynWillis. She got engaged yesterday, and meant to text her sister, but in all the excitement, got me instead. Her sister didn’t respond, but I did. So please help me say congrats, to Charlyn. (And her fiancé whose name I don’t know)#congratulations”
Charlyn immediately responded to Sarah’s kind message, “Omg! Thank you Sarah! His name is Dennis! Thank you so much for this. You’ve truly made my engagement experience even more of a life changer! Please know when we set a date, I’ll be reaching out to invite you, Freddie, and the kids!”
She then went on to make a post of her own on Facebook, extolling the kindness displayed by Sarah, who could easily have just ignored the message and gone about her business of being rich and famous, without missing a beat.
“I guess the best way to announce your engagement is to have a celebrity to do it for you.. THANKS Sarah Michelle Gellar… AND YES, I SAID YES to Dee!!!!!”
Sarah’s fans were over the moon about the fact that “Buffy” had gotten involved in a stranger’s life in this way. “Can you Imagine accidentally texting Buffy? I hope she is invited to the wedding AND goes!” one fan wrote. Another gushed, “That would be one of my dream misdials. So awesome that you would take the time. I’m sure she’s a doubly happy lady!”
We agree — best wrong number ever! Congratulations, Charlyn and Dee, and Sarah… please don’t ever stop being awesome. And speaking of being awesome, don’t forget to share this story to spread the love!
